Campervans Are a Parents’ Best Friend
The Best Campervan for a Family: Why Semi-Custom is the Way to Go
Do you ever feel like you leave home with everything but the kitchen sink EVERY DAY?
Well, we have the perfect vehicle for parents. Because now you have the ability to carry the kitchen sink with you, too! All jokes aside. Parents have a challenging and a rewarding job. Taylor and I have two nuggets of our own, and we never knew life could be simultaneously so chaotic and so immensely fulfilling. As a mom myself, I appreciate the value of a good van. But honestly, minivans are overrated, especially when you could have an adventure van instead. ;)
Maintaining an Active Lifestyle with Kids
I’ll admit, maintaining an active lifestyle as a parent can seem impossible sometimes. And there are a lot of people that will tell you it is impossible. But it’s not, especially if you were an active and adventurous person pre-parenthood. The reality for most of us is that life changes when you become a parent. And adventure vehicles that have worked in the past … just don’t anymore.
A lot of families are choosing to add a campervan to their lineup of adventure equipment, and it’s such a game changer for a parent. Adventure suddenly seems accessible in a whole new way. Axis Vehicle vans make adventuring with kids easy, fun, and COMFORTABLE. Of course, there are alternatives to campervans, but we don’t think all adventure vehicles are created equal, especially when it comes to exploring with kids. Trucks with a converted bed and camper shell are so much fun. Taylor and I actually had one when we were a young couple. But space gets cramped FAST. Having added more tiny humans to the squad, I don’t think we could ever do the truck camping thing again. Roof tents are a fun option, too. You definitely have more head space. But there are some definite downsides. For one, they have to be stowed away when you want to move camp. This might be a minor inconvenience for some, but it’s an inconvenience nonetheless. And when storms roll in, you’re essentially sleeping in an elevated tent. Things can get pretty wild.
That’s why we think Axis Vehicle vans are the best option. It’s a serious upgrade from even a converted truck or roof tent. You can dress fully upright INSIDE. I’m talking standing, arms stretched putting on a sweater kinda space. You can change diapers on a flat surface INSIDE. (And did we mention you can do this while standing?) You can cook INSIDE. (Think rainy and sloppy and wet outside, dry and comfortable inside.). You can weather a storm INSIDE. There’s no more comforting cold children under a pile of blankets inside the cab of a pickup truck. There’s no more trying to entertain kids in a tent while a storm rages outside.
You have all the conveniences of home in a compact adventure vehicle that tackles mountain roads and city streets with similar ease.
It doesn’t take away from adventure. It allows more of it.
Safe and Reliable Campervans
We get that owning a campervan may not be in every budget, but it may suit you more than you think. Our Revolver Layout is built on a Ford Transit 148” wheelbase. And maybe that doesn’t mean anything to you, but it optimizes liveability and driveability. You get all the benefits of a roomy vehicle, but it fits in all but the smallest parking spaces. Transits come with all kinds of extras that make driving a bigger vehicle easier. Things like a backup camera and a tight turn radius make it highly maneuverable. It’s surprising how quickly you’ll get used to driving these vans. I actually prefer them now. You sit up high, so your visibility is just so different than in a car.
There are a lot of Conveniences to Owning an Axis Vehicle Van as a Parent
The biggest is you get to be close to nature with a lot of conveniences traditional camping, truck camping, and rooftop tent camping just don’t allow. The Revolver Layout has a nice kitchenette, complete with a sink. This means you can wash little hands and rinse off dishes much easier. You have more space in general and better sleeping options. And when the weather gets bad, you can play board games indoors. Or enjoy exploring knowing you have a nice little home to return to. It functions great as a daily driver. It even makes being an adventurous family much more doable. Going to soccer games, climbing competitions, mountain bike races, and everything in between is a breeze because you have a little home at your disposal. Siblings have a place to hang out and nap when events go long and get boring. You can eat healthy meals right in the parking lot. Plus having a working fridge in your vehicle for grocery shopping trips is next-level boujee.
Dirty Boots Welcome in this Adventure Van Conversion!
All Axis Vehicles are built to get dirty. We want to fade the line between indoors and outdoors. That means we use quality, rugged materials to ensure your van can handle dirty boots, curious hands, and well-used outdoor equipment. And when it comes time to clean up. Well, it’s a small space. So you can sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee, lean into the chaos of family life, and choose a life of adventure with the whole family along for the ride.
Here’s a quick video of our kids playing outside on one of our favorite days; an epic RAIN day! Parks are always empty and we have the whole place to ourselves. The kids play ‘Speed Slide’. I time them to see how fast they can go down a slide in their rain suits. It’s hilarious. Afterwards, (sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes 3 hours) we head back to the van, dry off, grab a snack and then warm up by the heater.
